Science  and  Nature

   "Science without religion is lame,
        Religion without science is blind."

                                            Albert Einstein

It is the business of Science to discover measurable facts about the material universe and then to propound 'natural laws' which provide a rational explanation for these facts and for their inter-relation.

The success of Science in achieving this, in demonstrating such laws, has profound implications for religion and philosophy.

But modern man too often misunderstands the true significance of Science's achievement.  Certainly it has freed him from the chains of superstition, from the dread of a capricious Unknown, and from the need to believe in an erratic and unfathomable supernatural Being to explain the mysteries of nature and the Universe.  But this does not mean that Science explains away the Divine - far from it.  On the contrary, Science demonstrates that if Alpha-Holon exists and  controls the Universe, then He does so in a rational and orderly way.

And if there is a Supreme Being, is this not what we should expect?  Before Science was able to demonstrate that the Universe is rational and orderly, man found it neither: to explain the mysteries of nature, he was forced to invoke  some 'supernatural' Being, some God or gods, whose activities being unfathomable were presumed to be quite capricious.  This was surely a most unsatisfactory belief and an excellent reason for being an atheist!

But now that Science has uncovered the orderliness and harmony of the Universe, it has made belief in God more rational.

Scientific  Laws

So, if Alpha-Holon exists, Alpha-Holon of Whom all Aethers are parts, how would He manifest Himself? What evidence of His existence should we expect to find?  Should we not predict that He would be prescribing rules of behaviour and thus guiding all the Aethers which are His parts?

We should also predict that since Alpha-Holon the Whole is by definition omnipresent throughout the Universe, these rules of behaviour must be uniform and universal: that, for example, a water molecule on the other side of the Universe, billions of light years away from our Planet Earth, would behave exactly like the nice hot water molecule in that cup of tea you are drinking!

And this is just what Science is so busily and brilliantly determining.  What are the natural laws it is discovering if not rules of universal behaviour?  But you see, although Science can demonstrate that these laws exist, it lies quite outside its scope to offer an opinion as to why they exist.  Indeed it is a well known chicken-and-egg scientific conundrum "Which came first - materiality or the laws which govern it?"

So, if I insist that the existence of laws implies the existence of a Law-Giver - if I reject the view that laws are there because they are there and for no other reason - Science is in no position to dispute the matter one way or the other. Such an opinion lies outside the province of Science - and scientists who assert the contrary do not do so as scientists.

But while Science has nothing to say about why all things in the Universe should act according to prescribed laws, the theistic system I believe in, actually predicts the existence and universality of such natural laws, of laws governing all parts of the Universe.
