Panpsychic Philosophy

SUMMARY OF THE VERIFICATION

When I embarked on the verification of my hypothesis, I proposed that if I was successful, I would be entitled to challenge the materialist and the atheist to come forward with a hypothesis which better fits the facts. This I now do.

What the Materialist Would Have to Explain

If Life is material, what is it?

If Consciousness is material, what is it?

Relativity says all phenomena are relative to the observer. What is an observer?

Quantum Theory says certainty does not exist. How can this be squared with a mechanistic universe?

          What caused the Big Bang?

What caused the evolution of inanimate matter?

What is the explanation for the paradox that while entropy (disorder) is increasing in the universe, so is individual complexity (order)?

The proteins which are the building blocks of life could not have come about by chance. How did they arise.

How could multiple simultaneous beneficial mutations have occurred by random chance?

What is instinct? What is the mechanism of its transmission?

Placentals and marsupials are not genetically related. How could they have evolved in parallel?

What is the explanation for psychosomatic disease? for acupuncture? for faith healing?

What is the explanation for telepathy? for clairvoyance? for precognition? for telekinesis?

I have offered possible answers to all these questions. I challenge the materialist to answer one of them.

What the Atheist Has to Explain

If materialism cannot give answers to the above questions, what explanations has atheism?

Specifically:

If Consciousness is non material, how can it suffer material decay or material death?

Is the Consciousness of man of a higher order than the Consciousness of a rabbit? If so, is there not an ascending sequence of Consciousnesses?

If there is an ascending sequence of Consciousnesses, must there not be an end term, a highest order Consciousness, whether finite and humanly conceivable, or infinite?

The material universe came into being at a certain moment in time. Nothing before that moment could have been material. So what was it that caused the Big Bang?  Is there anything except Consciousness which is existent but non material? If so, what?

Why isn't the Universe random and chaotic? Why is it ordered? Whence come the 'natural laws' which govern its behaviour? Why are they consistent and universal?

Recapitulation

Without waiting for the atheist's reply, we shall use the second half of this book to examine the practical implications of the metaphysical scheme I have set before you.

But before we do,  let us pause for a moment to recapitulate and see how far my Fourteen Propositions have proved consistent with the facts of science, of observation and of reason; and how far they have led to accurate predictions.

First Proposition  Life is non-material. It arises from the addition   of an Aether to a number of subordinate parts.

Second Proposition  A human individual is a non material Aether. It inhabits at least one more dimension than materiality.

Third Proposition  Self and body represent a collaborating association of a higher Aether with its subordinate Aethers.

Fourth Proposition  The laws of nature are universal. The prescription that the existence of a human individual derives from a hierarchy of Aethers must be the prescription for the existence of every individual entity in the Universe.

Fifth Proposition  Every Entity comprises Aether plus energy vibrations.

Sixth Proposition   Aether is individualised at different levels of complexity and development. There is a hierarchy of entities from the lowest level particle, comprising particle-level Aether plus vibrations, to the highest order entity on this planet, the entity of man, comprising energy vibrations plus human level Aether.

Seventh Proposition   The higher the individual, the more dimensions it has: the time dimension of a lower order individual appears as a space dimension to a higher order observer. Suggested number of dimensions are: 2 for photons, 3 for inanimate matter, 4 for animate creatures and (possibly) 5 for man.

Eigth Proposition  An entity's Aether comprises its time dimension. To exist, every individual must have duration, must have a 'Now' which lasts for a finite period.

Ninth Proposition Alpha exists, the SuperAether Who is the logical Ultimate of the hierarchical series of ascending orders of Aether.

Tenth Proposition  Holon exists, the SuperEntity comprising All-That-Is.

Eleventh Proposition  God is Alpha, the Overmind. God is Holon, All-That-Is. God is Alpha-Holon, whose necessary attributes are Power, Knowledge, Creativity and Free-will.

Twelfth Proposition  Individual identity is the condition of all existence. We are all parts of Alpha-Holon, but we remain individuals.

Thirteenth Proposition   Alpha-Holon is immortal and so is every part of Him, every Aether.

Fourteenth Proposition  The purpose of existence is to evolve. We incarnate to learn at the School of Earth.

I believe that I have shown that the existence of Alpha-Holon, all powerful, comprehending all things, is indeed consistent with many facts:-

First  The orderliness and rationality of the universe suggest a guiding rationality, intelligence or Aether.

Second The immanence of  Aether in all materiality demands an element of uncertainty in the behaviour of all things - a prediction wholly born out at the sub-atomic level by the Quantum Theory and at the animal level by ordinary observation.

Third  This immanence not only predicts many of Einstein's discoveries, it even shows how and why they might arise: it offers, for example, an explanation of the particle/wave paradox.

Fourth It is the Individuation of God which explains the purpose and mechanism of the creation of the material universe.

Fifth  The evolution of divine Aether demonstrates how life arose, and why.

Sixth  It also explains death, out of body experiences, ghosts and mediumship.

Seventh By modification of Darwinism, it explains evolution, instinct, prodigies, extinction, social and religious conservatism, sleep and the emergence of adaptable man.

Eighth It shows the necessity of disease. It predicts psychosomatic disorders and the possibility of faith-healing and miracle cures.

Ninth  It predicts the possibility of telepathy, clairvoyance, prophecy and telekinesis and shows possible mechanisms for their operation.

Tenth  It underwrites the claims of Spiritualists.

Lastly It shows meaning for man's existence, for his inequalities and individuality, for his history.

My hypothesis is not proven, of course.  How could it be, when it is conceived only by the humble-order mind of man?  But, at any rate in human terms, it appears to stand up to the tests of rationality, self consistency and a broad harmony with the discoveries of modern investigation.  Moreover, it suggests answers to a number of vital questions which have largely been ignored as unanswerable.
